FirstNet Receives Another “Clean” Audit Opinion

By Kim S. Farington, FirstNet Chief Financial Officer

The First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) has received a “clean” audit opinion for its financial management practices for Fiscal Year 2016. This marks the fourth consecutive year that FirstNet has achieved a clean opinion.  FirstNet also has zero significant deficiencies (SD) related to this audit FirstNet successfully closed the only SD noted in prior years.

These consistently clean audit opinions are a representation of FirstNet’s dedicated financial team that works hard to apply strong policies to strengthen financial controls.  This audit demonstrates FirstNet’s financial management commitment carried out by strong leadership efforts and partnerships within the Department of Commerce.

I would like to thank our department-wide financial management team, as well as the FirstNet leadership team for their hard work and dedication to sound financial practices.  As FirstNet moves forward with the National Public Safety Broadband Network, our financial management team will remain good stewards of each FirstNet dollar.

The audit was conducted by an independent auditor and can be accessed here.
