Data and Technology are Key Weapons when Fighting Wildland Fires

More than ever, data is a crucial weapon in the fight against wildfires, says Ken Kremensky, Barona, Calif., fire chief, in this video.

San Diego County, where Barona is located, sees wildfires regularly – in urban and remote areas, as well as on tribal reservations. Mobile data computers provide the vital, real-time information firefighters need, such as where to dispatch, wind conditions, humidity, structure locations, road conditions and availability of water supply.

Access to data and technology not only keeps firefighters themselves safer, Chief Kremensky says, it helps the various agencies fighting wildfires work together as a team to save lives and property.
